First Time Skiers

We have been buying up used ski equipment at yard sales and craigslist now that we live so close to Ski Roundtop. Today we got out on the mountain for the first time. Avery and Caitlin had a blast. It worked out perfectly today because they both learned and developed at the same pace so neither of them felt discouraged or left behind. They are already pestering to go back. They have also hatched a plan to build a ski lift and snow making machine for our sand mound! Cait explained that making snow is simple - it's just vanilla ice cream and ice mixed together!

A: What's her name going to be when she grows up?
M: Adelyn
A: But that's not a grown-up name.
M: Well what is your name going to be when you grow up?
A: Bob.
C: But Mommy's name was still Mommy when she was little.

Guess Avery is planning on changing his name when he grows up!

2 Months - Adelyn

We have stopped using the blog for the most part, but I felt bad neglecting my fourth born by not posting any updates about her. I barely posted anything about our third born either since he has been home. I want to keep a record for my own memories since I feel like these years with little ones are flying by so quickly! Adelyn is two months old already. Thankfully she has been a fairly easy baby. I definitely needed that with the fourth child. Here are a few things she has been up to the first two months.

She has been an excellent sleeper. She has been sleeping around 5-7 hrs straight at night for a few weeks now and just recently started sleeping 8-10 hours. She will usually wake up happy and smiling around 7am to eat and then go back to sleep for 1-2 more hours. The downside to this is that she doesn't take any long naps during the day. She falls asleep after eating and wakes up about 10 minutes later. Just enough time to switch a load of laundry.

She has started cooing recently. I love hearing this sound and watching her expression as she explores her voice.

She started smiling around January 1. This might be my favorite milestone about babies. She can definitely brighten up a dreary day with that toothless grin.

She is very happy and content most of the time. She is happy being held by her siblings or swinging in her swing or sitting in her bouncy chair. She's not too fond of tummy time yet.

She is a great eater too. She had trouble gaining weight in the first few weeks, but since about two weeks old she has gained 4 lbs. She is our smallest Swartz yet, only 10.06 lbs and measuring in the 16% for weight (our others have always been in the 70-90%). She is measuring 22.75 in tall (58%) and is now wearing 3-6 month clothing. Although, she has the tiniest waist and can still fit in Newborn diapers and most 0-3mo pants are huge on her. She has recently expressed a dislike for being bottle fed and much prefers being Mommy-fed. I remember this trend with Avery and Caitlin too around the same age.

Adelyn is adored by her brothers and sister. She is usually showered (aka smothered) with kisses and hugs all day long. Caitlin especially likes to hold her and feed her a bottle (when she'll take one). Although she is also quick to declare "All done, Mommy!" when she sees something better or more interesting to play with. Avery will hold her also but doesn't ask as often. And Eli gets to hold her under adult supervision. He is very gentle with her, but tends to like touching her eyes and head and face.

Adelyn sure is loved in this family. We look forward to many more memories with her in the coming months! Pictures to come in another post.

Adelyn Mackenzie

At 5:33pm yesterday (Nov 26) we celebrated new life in our family as Adelyn Mackenzie was born. Mommy and baby are both doing well. The big brothers and sister are enjoying the new baby, too. Here are some pictures from Adelyn's first day.
